Indigenous educator Dr Chris Sarra has been named Queensland's Australian of the Year award winner. Dr Sarra has been a leading figure in reforming schooling for indigenous children. His 'Strong and Smart' program at Cherbourg State School, where he was principal, led to a 94 per cent cut in absenteeism and significant improvements in literacy and numeracy.
