The University of Melbourne's Institute for a Broadband-Enabled Society (IBES) has become a foundation member of a new global research group driven by Bell Labs aimed at reducing the energy requirements of the internet. Green Touch is a consortium made up of ICT industry, academic and non-governmental research experts that aim to fundamentally change the energy needs of technology, including the internet, and to significantly reducing the carbon footprint of ICT devices, platforms and networks. iTWire, 17 January 2010.
