Award-winning journalist and former Victorian arts and education minister Mary Delahunty will head a new national writers centre based in Canberra. Delahunty hopes to use her position as national director of Writing Australia to help writers overcome the challenges of working in an evolving literary landscape. She said helping writers understand copyright protection in new mediums, such as the iPad and e-books, was one of the tasks Writing Australia, which is funded by the Australian Council for the Arts, would undertake after its launch later this year.
